Over the years we not only expanded in size but in becoming a haven for the community. Many friendships have been made and a lot of life stories shared. We have been witness to love blossoming into marriage, then into children, and now are watching their children grow. We hosted a group of scientists from Rockefeller University for almost 4 years until they received their Nobel Prize ... we always said it was the Java Girl coffee that gave them their creative thinking powers to win a Nobel ... they agreed ... thanks, guys! We are proud to have been a part of their process even if it was just the place where they met every day at 3:30 for their coffee. So many wonderful and very special people have come and gone over the years. When they come back for a visit while in town, or send us a postcard telling us of their travels, it reminds us of why we are here! And to those who have worked with me and to those who are with me now ... thanks for making java girl what it is today ... a neighborhood hang for all! |
![]() testimonials "Java Girl is the kind of place that people who dream about living in the city imagine city life to be. Great coffee, hip, funky atmosphere and inviting to all. Locals sit out front drinking coffee and talking about news of the day. Great world music and good food to boot." It's soulless, boring and overpriced. So we ran down to Java Girl's and had a cup of joe and a muffin and talked about it. We savored the aroma of the fresh brew, the light sweetness in our blueberry muffin (which we could tell were blueberry because we could pick out the berries and save them on our saucer for last) and the cheerful, comfy decor. The difference between the chain and Java Girl? The chain strove to make itself 'charming,' which only makes us painfully aware of its bland, cookie-cutter style, its dead-eyed wait-staff, its monotone, metallic crappuccino taste. Java Girl is the real thing -- real cushions on the chairs, real cream in the coffee, real blueberries in the muffins and real people at the counter. We only hope Java Girl survives the corporate squeeze." 2002 Best of Manhattan / New York Press "This charming coffee shop and meeting place is the best in the city, if not the world! A combination of European atmosphere and downtown friendly, this is the place for the BEST JAVA, THE BEST JAVA GIRLS, THE BEST JAVA MUSIC AND THE BEST JAVA FUN! Owner Linda and her crew make you feel as if you're at home." Posted on CitySearch by Mermaid1 9.06.02 "Their chai latte is by far the best I've ever had and their coffees are top notch." One would walk right by it if he didn't look for this place but what a gem it is if you find it! Even my most snutty girlfriend fell in love with this place." A warm little place to sip quality brews and munch french pastries with the neighborhood regulars who brag it buries the chains. It's also a welcome chance to browse for creative bric-a-brac or pick up some premium beans and teas to go." Zagats New York City Gourmet Shopping & Entertaining 2008 |
